Hey Everyone, How are you?
I hope you all are having a wonderful October I have decided to write about a movie I really like and admire the movie is called Save the Last Dance.
It Stars Julia Stiles, Sean Patrick Thomas and Kerry Washington and a whole wonderful cast of people.
We are first introduced to a young lady named Sara Johnson who is 17 years old and she is a promising Ballet Dancer in Suburban Chicago, hopes to be admitted to the Juilliard School and implores her mother to come watch her dance at her audition.
She really wants her there because she is her number one supporter, Sara makes it to the audition and she starts her doing her routine and then she looks out at the audience while she is still performing and sees her mom hasn't made it there yet which distracts her from her audition and she ends up getting thrown off and messing up her routine because she's focused on where her mom is.
She ends up failing the audition and learns later that her mom was on her way to the audition and that it was pouring rain she ends up getting into a car accident and dying while going to see Sara.
Sara ends up feeling guilty over her mom's passing because she is thinking to herself if I didn't ask my mom to come to my audition she would still be alive and still be here with me.
She decides to give up Ballet because it hurts too much and makes her think of her mom and the accident that she was in while driving to her audition, she ends up moving to the South Side and living with her estranged father Roy who is a relatively unsuccessful Jazz Musician, who plays the trumpet at night clubs Sara transfers to a majority black high school, where she is one of a handful of white students.
One day while she is still adjusting to her new school she sets her backpack down while she is opening her locker and another young lady sees her backpack and picks it up and starts walking with it and then tells Sara don't leave your backpack on the floor here, someone could easily swipe it her name is Chenille Reynolds who we learn is a single mother and having relationship problems with her ex-boyfriend Kenny.
later Chenille invites Sara to a dance club called Stepps, where she has her first experience dancing to hip- hop rhythms, at Stepps she dances with Derek, Chenilles brother Derek is Studious and responsible which is something rare in his community, he dreams of attending Georgetown University and eventually becoming a pediatrician.
Derek likes Sara, and decides to help her develop her dancing abilities by incorporating more hip- hop into her style, Derek takes a reluctant Sara to the Joffrey Ballet, and afterwards she confides in him about her mother and her dreams.
Derek achieves his dream of being accepted into Georgetown, Derek convinces Sara to follow her dreams to follow her dreams of Juilliard and they begin a romantic relationship with one another Sara has an exciting audition and Roy has a heart to heart with her and encourages her to attend the audition, and Chenille encourages Derek to see Sara and reconcile with her she sees how much she really likes him and cares about him, Derek arrives just in time at a crucial point in her audition to offer moral support and encouragement she rekindles her relationship with Derek!
You will have to see the rest of the movie to find out what next with Sara and if she gets accepted to Juilliard I decided to write about this movie because I love the Story and how easy it is to connect with the characters and their story line and how engaging it is!
It really brings you into the movie like you are actually in it with them, I also like it because I also like it because it relates to me in a way, I also have a important audition coming up and just like Sara was hesitant about dancing again I have been a little hesitant about acting because I haven't acted in such a long time.
My last play I was so young when I was in it I had a lot of fun and I enjoyed every minute of it I was in Beauty and the Beast and I played a villager I enjoyed that because I got to be in most scenes of the play and sing different songs which I also love doing singing!
I remember my first play was Alice in wonderland I was really young then I had so much fun with that play, so many wonderful memories My wonderful friend Mrs.Paige Pavlishin directed it and she did a fabulous job she is one of the reasons I love acting and performing in plays because she always made the plays so fun and exciting and memorable I played a flamingo and I also got to open the play of Alice in Wonderland by sliding down the slide and then the play began, I will always cherish and keep that memory!
And I am also motivated by wonderful and amazing Friend Jenn Marie love her dearly she is so awesome and has a magnificent voice and heart and personality when I saw her act and perform for the first time when I was much younger she played her role so well It was like she was her actual character she put everything she had into playing the character when the play was over all the people who were in the play came out to the lobby to say hello to everyone and I wanted to meet Jenn Marie I guess I was a little a nervous at first I remember she told me it's ok I'm nice and friendly that is just a character I was playing and she gave me the biggest smile and hug and has been a dear friend of mine to this day and I am so grateful and thankful for them, and also my big sis Adrian is a motivator because seeing how brave she is with acting and making her light shine makes me think if she can do it I can too! She is also near and dear to my heart!
Back to my audition story I was just watching service and then I saw a poster for the church Christmas Play and my spirit felt excited like It wanted to go and audition and be part of it, at first I was thinking I don't know should I really do this?
I asked a lot of my friends and family and they all told me yes go for it It is right down your Alley, You will be amazing I am so grateful and so appreciative of the moral support and encouragement I am receiving from my friends and family It means so much to me to know they believe in me and are with me and cheering me on while I am on this journey for the Christmas Play!
I am excited about it, I have practiced and everything and even prepared a monologue and song I will be singing a snippet of all I want for Christmas by Mariah Carey that is my favorite Christmas song !
My favorite scene from the movie is when Derek shows up to Sara's audition and bopping his head to the music and just has the biggest smile on his face while watching her dance like she is doing awesome and that's my girl like he is so proud of her!
And I also like when Sara tells him about herself and shares with him her dreams and the story of her mom it shows how much she trusts him to share something like that with him!
Julia Stiles did absolutely incredible in this movie she makes you believe She is actually Sara Johnson in real life and not just a character she is playing she puts her whole heart and spirit into it, and she is also on Dancing with the Stars and dancing with Ezra Sosa he is pro dancer and they dance amazing together, they also did a dance from the movie Save the last dance in their routine and really performed it well Even Patrick Sean Thomas was there to support Julia while she was performing which shows they are really good friends and support one another well!
I encourage you all if there's something you have been thinking about doing and its something that your heart has been telling you to do and you feel like its the right thing to do, I encourage you to at least try or pursue the thing that's on your heart or mind because then you can say I did it and I am glad I did!
I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a good dance movie! Also be sure to check out Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa on Dancing with the Stars they have been really lighting up the stage and enjoying themselves each week! Ezra is such an incredible coach!😇 and Julia Stiles is doing such a fantastic job! My favorite dance 🪩 of hers was Jenny on the Block SuperBowl night Jazz Routine !
